AUDITION FOR OUR JANUARY 2027 SHOW - PRIDE & PREJUDICE!!!

PRODUCTION DATES:
January 14-17 and January 20-23, 2027 (Wednesday-Saturday at 7:30 pm, Sunday at 3 pm). Please note that theatre load in and tech rehearsal for this show is Sunday, January 10, 2027, with dress rehearsals on Monday, January 11, 2027 and Tuesday, January 12, 2027.

THE PLAY: 
Kate Hamill’s modern adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic, Pride and Prejudice, presents literature’s greatest tale of latent love in all its theatrical glory. Highly outspoken Lizzy Bennet has determined that she will NEVER marry, despite mounting pressure from family and societal expectations. But love can prove maddeningly irresistible, especially when it comes in the guise of a vaguely handsome, somewhat amusing and yet impossibly aggravating Mr. Darcy. Witness and enjoy the complex dance of love play out as Lizzy spars against a most unexpected rival, the desire of her out heart itself. An absolute delight for every Austen fan of all ages.

CASTING REQUIREMENTS:
(large cast with the possibility of multiple roles)
*Note: the ages of the characters are flexible, and casting will be based on chemistry between actors. Stage 43 welcomes diversity in casting and actors of all backgrounds, identities, and abilities are encouraged to audition!

Characters
Jane – The eldest and most beautiful Bennet daughter. Kind, idealistic, diffident. Always tries to do the right thing.
Lizzy – A year or two younger than Jane. Clever, spirited; can be sharp-tongued. Gets flustered, which makes her klutzy. Prides herself on good judgement. Not especially beautiful.
Lydia – The youngest Bennet. Lively, prone to imitating others’ behaviour and eavesdropping. May be doubled with Lady Catherine.
Charlotte Lucas – Same age as Lizzy. A practical girl with a good sense of humour. May be doubled with Mr. Bennet.
Lady Catherine – Patrician Caesar-meets-drill-sergeant. May be doubled with Lydia.
Miss de Bourgh – Lady Catherine’s daughter; a gremlin. May be doubled with Jane.
Mr. Darcy – One of the richest men in England. Too proper for his own good; awkward in most social contexts. Prides himself on self-control and good judgement.
Mr. Bingley – Loves the world and the world loves him. Mr. Darcy’s particular friend. Almost literally a dog. May be doubled with Mary.
Wickham – An unfairly handsome and charming gentleman. Raised with Darcy. May be doubled with Collins / Miss Bingley.
Mrs. Bennet – The matriarch of the Bennet family. Mostly a silly woman, of mean understanding and variable temper. Hypochondriac. The business of her life is to get her daughters married.
Mr. Bennet – The patriarch of the family. Finds amusement in absurdity; often looks for respectable escape from the chaos of his family life. Disappointed in marriage. May be doubled with Charlotte.
Mary – The third Bennet girl. Bit of a monster; prone to pedanticism and sulking. May be doubled with Bingley. A dark goth Bronte character trapped in an Austen world.
Miss Bingley – A very rich young woman. Fancies herself witty. May be doubled with Wickham/Collins.

PLEASE NOTE: 
Audition will be cold readings from sides. In addition, you are welcome to show off your favourite 1 to 2-minute monologue showcasing your wit and romanticism. The monologue does not need to be delivered from memory!

This is a non-Equity production; everyone involved in this production does so on a voluntary basis. There is no remuneration. If you are a union member, you will need to obtain a waiver from your union to participate in this production.

Successful auditionees will be required to become members of Stage 43 Theatrical Society at the first rehearsal ($20.00 adult / $16 seniors annual membership fee).

Rehearsals take place on Monday and Wednesday evenings (7 pm to 9:30 pm) and Sunday afternoons (1:30 pm to 4:30 pm) beginning late September/early October 2026.
