Synopsis
When a man is accused of abducting half a dozen cats, it's a simple open-and-shut case, even for a jury that's filled with oddballs. After all, every scrap of evidence indicts the accused, yet, Juror #8, a wannabe lawyer, believes the "Cat Burglar" is innocent. Can she sway the other jury members? Or will they side with Juror #3, the only sane one in the room? A hilarious parody of 12 Angry Men.

Claire Pinkett, S43 President , Show Producer, Set Designer, Front-of-House, Social Media, etc, etc.
Claire has been on the Board of Directors of Stage 43 for more than 20 years. She is passionate about keeping community theatre in the community and making it accessible for all. She is a producer, a stage manager, a set builder/painter, a set dec artist, a props mistress, an actress, and anything else a production requires. She is most likely to be seen in the lobby, greeting patrons or selling 50/50 tickets, or onstage before the show telling everyone to turn off their mobile devices…lol!

Message from the President & Producer:

This year marks Stage 43’s champagne anniversary — forty‑three years of storytelling, community, and creativity. And fittingly, the traditional gift for a 43rd anniversary is travel. So we decided to take you on a journey of our own: a thriller (Misery), a musical (Legally Blonde), and now a farcical comedy (12 Incompetent Jurors). Two legs of the trip are behind us, and we’ve finally arrived at our destination — the show you’re about to see.
With so many iconic courtroom tales out there, why choose this one? Because in a world overflowing with stress, anxiety, and heavy news cycles, we felt it was time to let loose…to be silly…to laugh. And this play delivers exactly that. Whether it’s the absurdity of the case itself or the wonderfully eccentric jurors tasked with deciding it, the comedy never stops. We’ll let you decide which part is funnier.
Settle in, relax, and enjoy the show. We hope it brings you a good, cathartic belly laugh.

Message from the Director

The Old Comedian Ed Wynn, while on his deathbed, was asked 'Is it hard, dying?'. He paused and said 'Yes, but not as hard as comedy'. Great Comedy hits at many levels and needs people who are fearless to both be onstage and behind the scenes. This Company, Stage 43, understands what it takes to be fearless, challenging and just the right amount of crazy. And the cast for the show, well that's a matter of trust. Actors put a lot of trust in their Directors, and the ones who have no fear, trust and leap without a safety net. I've been lucky to have such a cast for this show. So please let them know how much you enjoy the show, and the bits you don't... well that's on me. Enjoy.

Miles Lavkulich, Director
Miles is honoured to be working with this incredible cast and crew. Selected previous shows he has directed include, Rabbit Hole for Vagabond Players, Lend Me a Soprano for White Rock Players, and Murder on the Orient Express for Stage 43. Enjoy!

12 INCOMPETENT JURORS CAST:

Colleen Bignell as Foreman, Juror #1
Colleen has appeared in past Stage 43 productions such as Woman in Mind, Dearly Departed, The Ladies Foursome, Mama Won't Fly, and Elephant Man. When not on stage, she enjoys doing sound design as heard in Baskerville, Misery,

Murder on the Orient Express, as well as Elephant Man. All of the Jurors hope you enjoy tonight's performance.

Regielyn Padua as Juror #2
Regielyn (they/them) is excited to be back on stage with Stage43. Previous credits include DA Joyce Reilly in Legally Blonde: The Musical (Stage 43), Cousin Chen in Tiger Style! (Cinnabar Theater), and Zuzu in Dance Nation (LeftEdge Theatre). A transplant from Northern California, Regielyn has a penchant for felines, cheese, and using song lyrics in everyday conversations. Up next, they will be appearing in Far From the Tree’s production of Julius Caesar. They are grateful to the production team and cast of 12 Incompetent Jurors and their partner Mike for his endless support.

Dianna Harvey as Juror #3
Dianna is a poet, performer, props master and producer from the Peninsula. She’s pleased as punch to be part of this production! Dianna enjoys spending time with her pups, her pet poultry, her partner, her progeny, and playing the piano. Plenty of praise go out to the production crew, players, and patrons of this performance. It’s been a positively priceless play to be a part of!

Ashlyn Shaw as Juror #4
This is Ashlyn's first production with Stage 43, and she couldn't be more excited! Originally from Alberta, she moved to Vancouver in 2020 to attend Capilano University's Musical Theatre program, which she graduated from in 2023. Past works include Amélie (CapU), Carrie the Musical (CapU), The Pirates of Penzance (NSLOS), Songs For A New World (First Impressions Theatre), and It's A Wonderful Life (Theatre in the Country).  She'd like to thank her family, friends, and boyfriend for their constant love and support throughout all her adventures. Enjoy the show!

Ryan Johnson as Juror #5
<redacted> has been enjoying the passion of theatre for <redacted> years and you may remember him from previous stage <redacted>'s productions. Such as Elephant Man, Baskerville and he was the <redacted> master in Legally Blonde: The Musical just last <redacted>. Seeing as he's such a well-established veteran of the theatre, here's a few things he's been wanting to get off his chest. For one thing, the board or stage <redacted>  <redacted>  <redacted>  <redacted>  <redacted>  <redacted>  <redacted>  <redacted>. And they know it!!!

Jill Menkveld as Juror #6
Jill is a highly dedicated performer who bravely pretends to be other people in front of strangers in exchange for laughter and applause. Previous roles of Jill's include at least one character who exits dramatically and another who missed her mark that one time and will never let herself forget. Better than flubbing a line, right!? Yeahhh.. she's done that too. Hey, it happens! Moving on... Jill would like to thank the entire cast and crew for being such a supportive team. Yay sports. Wait.. what?

Erin Wright as Juror #7
Erin is thrilled to be a part of her first production with Stage 43! It has been over ten years since Erin last took to the stage, and she is so excited to join this talented team for such a fun, silly romp of a show. When not in rehearsals, Erin can be found teaching a group of 18 unruly kindergarteners, volunteering with her youth group, or drinking good coffee on a walk with a friend.

Kathryn du Crôs as Juror #8
Kathryn is thrilled to perform again with Stage 43, alongside a fun and talented cast, having previously appeared in The Father, Murder on the Orient Express, and Calendar Girls. She’s also performed with Pivot Theatre (The Vagina Monologues), Emerald Pig (Terms of Endearment), and PoMo Players (Miracle on 34th Street). Kathryn is also a frequent performer in John McGie’s The Chair monologue series. Kathryn would like to extend her heartfelt gratitude to the amazing cast, crew, and director Miles Lavkulich for this fun opportunity. She is deeply thankful to her beautiful family, and to her dear friends for their unwavering support of her lifelong passion for acting.

Brandt Roth as Juror #9
Brandt is a recently graduated voice actor from the On The Mic Training Voice Over Program, based in Vancouver. His passion for collaborative story-telling fuels his creativity and spirit. Whether that's behind a mic, on a stage, or rolling dice on a table, Brandt loves to connect with others to create stories and make memories. Eager and with a New Years initiative, this is his first post-secondary theatre production, and he couldn't be more excited to share that experience than with Stage 43

Karla Scribner as Juror #10
This is Karla’s first production with Stage 43, and she’s been unleashed as the gloriously combustible, reliably offensive Juror #10. Playing a character who blurts out the things that make everyone cringe has been both chaotic and strangely therapeutic, giving her full permission to let loose onstage. The jury’s out, the verdict is in, and she’s had an absolute blast with this cast and crew. Thanks to all who survived her fiery debut.

Diane Tzingounakis as Juror #11
Diane is excited to be back on stage with Stage 43 for 12 Incompetent Jurors as Juror #11! Past productions include: The Creature Creeps and School for Scandal, which were great shows. Have fun watching the craziness and fun of all 12 of the jurors! Diane has thoroughly enjoyed working with all the cast, crew and director on this production. She hopes you will enjoy the finished product and leave the show full of laughter and good vibes! Enjoy the show!

Mo (Ka-Wing) Yan as Juror #12
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Mo performed in various plays and musicals before relocating to Metro Vancouver in 2022. She quickly immersed herself in the local theatre scene as an actress and keyboardist. Selected credits include The Woman in Talking to the Dead (Or Festival 2024), Louise Peary in Play On! (Vagabond Players), Montague in Romeo and Juliet Workshop Reading (Promethean Theatre & Far From the Tree Productions), Ensemble in Sister Act (TIC), and Keys 2 for Godspell (Play on Words Productions). 12 Incompetent Jurors marks Mo’s debut with Stage 43. She has enjoyed every single chaotic moment this amazing cast and crew created together (though she still low-key wishes there were a tiger in this play).

A SMALL FEW OF OUR AMAZING CREW:

Karen Ostroff, Stage Manager
Karen welcomes the opportunity to be involved in this thought-provoking play, Misery. Many thanks go out to Angela Bell, a wonderful director, and to the warmly welcoming cast and crew, all of whom are truly gifted. She is thrilled to be returning to Stage 43, having managed many productions over the years, the most recent being Baskerville. She has stage managed for Pivot Theatre, for Emerald Pig’s Bard on the Bandstand’s production of King Lear, and for Vagabond Players’ The Last Romance. Her sincere thanks go out to family and friends who offer encouragement, strength and support. Enjoy the show!

Stuart Chaplin,
Producer, Sound and Lighting Designer
This is Stuart’s… honestly we’ve lost count – let’s just say he has been involved in most of the shows with Stage 43 since the pandemic.  Stuart’s theatre background at Douglas College in their stagecraft program led to a summer internship at the Banff Centre for the Performing Arts and a six-month contract with Royal Caribbean as a Sound and Light Tech.  This will be his first time taking on both sound and lighting designing roles so let’s hope he knows the difference between a blackout and a mute cue.

Joy-Ann Lee, Costume Design
Joy-Ann joined in 2004 and soon became the Costume Mistress for Stage 43, designing, making, and selecting costumes for actors to wear while performing, ensuring they capture the required effect for their roles. Costumes are an integral aspect of stage production, which helps producers and actors to tell their stories. Joy-Ann has worked on more than 33 productions, including our current production, and past productions of The Father, Opening Night, Footloose, M*A*S*H, The Elephant Man, and many more. “I have enjoyed these many years with Stage 43 and have met so many talented actors and crew and am privileged to have the trust of the group when it comes to costuming the actors.”

Stage 43 would like to express sincere thanks to the following:

  • The staff and volunteers of the Evergreen Cultural Centre for their support of community theatre and always making it a fun place to play - the Marketing Department for assistance in promotion, the Box Office for assistance in ticket sales, the Front-of-House staff for their amazing hospitality in welcoming our patrons, and Krista Pavane and the technical operations staff of the for their technical expertise and mentorship.

  • Dwayne Campbell for construction of the conference table.

  • Valley Driving School for use of space.

  • Wayne Nolan for providing the voice of the judge.

  • Miles Lavkulich for the loan of audio/visual equipment.

  • Fifth Avenue Collection for loan of jewellery.

  • And, of course, YOU - our patrons - for your kind support of community theatre!

We are also thankful for our volunteers who spend countless hours creating and rehearsing the magic of live theatre. Did you know that it takes about ten weeks to put a show like this together? Apart from the three rehearsals a week for actors, hours of design and execution go into the set, the costumes, the soundscape and the lighting, and then there are the hours of promotion, marketing and content creation. It is a truly and labour of love. Some of the greatest friendships you can make happen in community theatre. If you are looking for a new hobby, check out our Volunteer Page for more information on how to get involved. Bonus points if you have carpentry skills, since sadly we lost our long-time friend and builder a year ago.
